Karen, Wedding Office Manager

I was born in Llandudno, north Wales where my parents still reside.

When I left college my dream was to travel and see some of the beautiful places in the world, so I joined the airlines as cabin crew. I did this for 15 years ending up working for British airways. One of the most enjoyable parts of being cabin crew was meeting and looking after the passengers, making their trip an enjoyable experience.

I finished my flying career to raise my three lovely children and eventually moved from Surrey back to Shropshire to be nearer family. I loved being a mum but missed working so I saw an advert to join the team at Rowton Castle for 6 months covering a colleague who was on leave.

When my 6 months were over I was so lucky to be offered a permanent contract. Many years later I am still enjoying my role, doing what I always loved, meeting people an making someone's day so very special.

I have lived in Middletown on the Powys-Shropshire border my whole life. Whilst studying at Welshpool High School I began my career at Rowton Castle as a kitchen porter, moving through the departments to housekeeping, food and beverage, reception and finally, the Wedding Office. 

After working full time at Rowton for a a number of years, I was fortunate enough to be given the time to travel to Australia, during which I travelled up and down the East Coast with one of my close friends, visiting various attractions such as the Darling Harbour and the Great Barrier Reef. 

Following on from this, I began my role in the Wedding Office - which I have found extremely satisfying. Having worked in the various departments of the hotel, I have gained a knowledge for assisting couples with the planning of their special day; and hope to do so for many years to come. It is such an honour to be able to meet such lovely couples and their families, and to aid in making their wedding day such a momentous occassion.

I was born and raised in a small village on the Welsh/Hereford borders and trained at Hereford College in food and catering.  I worked at various hotels before arriving at Rowton Castle in 1993.

There is a possibility I may have been on the inventory at the beginning of the new era when Jack, Bryan & Steve arrived at Rowton in 1997!  Since then, I am proud to have been able to play a key role in the growth and success of the business, which today sees Rowton as one of the UK's most popular wedding venues.

Although I mainly work behind the scenes, what I enjoy most is the satisfaction of the guests who have stayed at Rowton saying that we have exceeded their expectations; and to work with an exceptional and experienced team of colleagues who all strive for perfection.

When I am not at work I try to fill my time to the full. I have only myself at home and class myself as low maintenance.  I take advantage of the gym facilities at the country club most evenings before going home. My passions are walking and cycling so spend as much time outdoors as I can; I have achieved some challenges involving long distance walks and cycling routes as well as completing several cycle sportive events.

Born in Shrewsbury, I have lived close to Rowton all of my life. Like many of the team here, I have held a position at the castle for quite some time; starting many years ago as a kitchen porter, I moved into the food and beverage department not long after. I worked part time as a waitress during my sixth form and univeristy years. 

Following a period working at Lake Vyrnwy Hotel  and on various marketing projects, I found myself back at Rowton on what I thought would be a part time basis whilst studying for a masters degree (specialist marketing) at Aberystwyth University. It wasn't long before the opportunity of 'Marketing Manager' became available, and I now balance the two roles; it keeps me busy.
